The announcement of a £3,150 compensation for WASPI women marks a crucial development in the long-standing battle for justice concerning women born in the 1950s who were impacted by the state’s pension age increases.
This compensation aims to address the financial challenges faced by these women after the government’s abrupt pension age reforms.
In this guide, we will cover everything about this new confirmed amount, when it will be paid, and the eligibility requirements.
What is the WASPI Movement?
The Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) campaign emerged to support women born in the 1950s who were significantly impacted by the government’s changes to the State Pension age.
Many of these women planned to retire at 60, but due to the pension age being raised without adequate notice, they were left unprepared, financially and emotionally.
The campaign has been calling for compensation, arguing that the government’s failure to properly communicate these changes has left thousands of women at a disadvantage, forcing them to work longer or face financial struggles.
As a result, the WASPI movement has become a powerful force in pushing for fairness and restitution for those affected.
WASPI New Amount Confirmed
The £3,150 compensation for WASPI women comes as part of an ongoing effort to compensate those whose retirement plans were disrupted by the abrupt pension age increases.
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) has acknowledged that the government failed to properly inform affected women, leading to significant financial and emotional hardships.
The government has been advised to provide compensation, with the suggested amount varying based on the degree of impact experienced by each individual.
While the amount has not been formally confirmed, the current figure being discussed is £3,150.
When Will the £3,150 Payment Arrive for WASPI Women?
As of now, the exact date of payment has not been confirmed. The government is still debating the exact figure, which could fall between £3,000 and £3,150, depending on the final decisions made in Parliament.
Some advocates for WASPI women have even called for higher compensation, with figures like £10,000 being suggested.
The anticipated payment is expected to be announced alongside the upcoming national budget, which could provide clarity on when payments will start being made to eligible women.
Eligibility for WASPI Compensation
To receive the £3,150 compensation, applicants must meet certain criteria, including:

How do I apply for WASPI compensation?

I had purchased shares towards my retirement through a share save scheme in Marks and Spencer. However, the migraines I suffered from became worse and medication couldn’t control them, so despite the retirement age increase I had to retire at 60 still because I was becoming a liability, arriving at work in no fit state to do anything but go straight home, often needing to get a cab. Because the retirement age had changed I needed to sell my shares to live on for the time between when I left work and when my pension eventually kicked in, leaving me with no savings for future emergencies.
Not sure how I can produce evidence as I retired in 2015/16 and have changed banks since then with the necessary financial details I’d need as proof of hardship impact!
I had to get equity on my flat.
I had loans that needed paying. I had to give up work because of illness at 64
This payment should be paid to all woman born from 1950’s without having to make claims, surely their circumstances should not need to be proven. DWP can supply all the information required. Don’t.make it difficult for people please, they did nothing wrong.
Well said Mary. I was not given any notice about pension age changes until I contacted DWP to ask when my pension would start. The response was when we work out your new pension birthday. That date was 2 years and 3 months after I thought I would retire. My husband and I jointly purchased our house together, this was an exciting time as we had not owned property before. Although 2years and 3months was not as long as many of you waited it meant I had to rely on my husband to cover my share of expenses when I didn’t earn enough. I found this distressing and worrying as I had always worked and paid my own way. Aged only 49 I had a mini stroke TIA. which meant I had to stop working altogether. With no pension I had no income and became very distressed leading Mr to a heart attack aged 59. The pension I received aged 62 till now was not enough for bills and three growing children took up most of it. So even £3000 will not compensate for that loss.
This should be paid to all these women as they were not told properly about the change in pensions I was told that we would retire at 60years but this didn’t happen had to work on the hmrc know all the women affected and it should be paid to them no letters to explain this
I was born in 1955
Sally reilly
18 01 1955
I work until I was 70 due to having to wait until 66 to get my pension
Long awaited and will help out finically with the payment
I had to work until 66 and it was a struggle being a single parent for years with 4 children.
After retired suffered illness after 1 yr of hearr failure
What if you do t have any proof does this mean you are unable to claim this
I won’t hold my breath. Sensationalised journalism strikes again. Hope you made plenty of money through advertising on the back of our demise. Unless you’ve got properly confirmed news, then please butt out. I will deliberately go straight by your articles in future.
Surely all women born between these dates are entitled to the compensation so why should we have to provide evidence? I feel insulted having to prove evidence.
The government have all these details on file .we should not have to apply for the pension moniey compensation. It is the government way of hoping by delaying it and hoping more women die .it should come quickly to the bank account where our state pension is paid
You shouldn’t have to prove anything only your age it’s a disgrace
We shouldn’t have to fill in a form asking why it impacted on ours lives.
It did end off
Good morning. As a WASPI women if this compensation happens it would make a big difference to me & my husband. We could buy the new front door that we desperately need! However, I am at a complete loss to know HOW I can PROVE the hardship that the changes to my pension age caused to me? Please advise
Why is this not an automatic payment?
what Documentation do i need to help me
So what happens if the wife has died since, will her husband be able to claim it as it has taken years to come to the decision. So what happens about that because of the delay on the BENEFITS PART
This is bullshit and probably a scam to get personal and financial details from applicant. Government has ALREADY stated it is NOT paying any compensation
My wife is in a home with dementia, so what happens about her compensation, as she can’t talk. She’s missed the best years because of this, massive mess by the so called people in charge.
Alan her husband
Ever woman born in the 50s and have worked all there life should be eligible for this pay out regardless of income we all paid!! And had to work an extra 6 years
Why must they be put through all this paperwork, when you know that they all had to not claim their pension , my wife now has dementia and won’t be able to do what the government is asking , so what will happen to her payout
The alleged criteria, requiring WASPI women to PROVE that they were impacted, is nothing more than a ploy to cop out of paying any compensation! We should not have to PROVE anything other than our date of birth! I, and many many others have no paperwork to prove anything one way or the other. So will get nothing which is pretty much what I expected. Thanks a lot
I was badly affected by not recieving my state pension at 60 I was separated from my husband & struggled with depression & hardship.
How can I prove i didn’t get a letter brethren medical through I’ll health.and was awaiting pension at 60.and was shocked disvover it was 66.it was very hard waiting till 66.such a big jump
How can justify £3,000 compensation to wasp women . I’m one of those who got my private pension early for my 60 th retirement. To then find out that I’d retire at 66 . So I had to use that money to keep myself, I wasn’t able to work full time because of my health issue
If women were born in the 1950s surely they have been impacted, as they had to work longer.
Should have retired at sixty but things changed the pension rules which made me to retire sixty five and a half
Who on earth keeps letters from the DWP for over 15 years gathering dust? I’d need an office. I signed the petition with WASPI and it looks like I won’t get it. How can I get my records from DWP ? Another hit against us pensioners.
So Goverment kept thousands of pounds of Waspi women’s money, and the women have to prove, why they should get it back!!! Absolute Disgrace.
By not receiving any notification of the pension age being altered, my life was very much put on hold for 6 years until I became 66 yrs. Those 6 years of relative hardship were so unfair after having worked so hard for years to rightly earn.my old age pension.
Compensation to all women born in the 1950s is fair and just.
Paltry sum to be honest ,when my calculations is £4000
I had to work as well as looking after my late husband.. my friend who is only 8 months older than me got her pension 2 years before me.. so unfair.. as it was a real struggle as I was unwell also..with hypothyroidism (thyroid removed at 22) and severe arthritis..I was born Jan 1954
Should be paid to all as we all paid in at the same time, and lost out at the same time.
I agreed and happy about this decision. I am avaliable single woman who is affected by these changes i have no kids to support me financial and had to work until the age of 66 and still looking for part time job to meet my ends.
And how are we going to prove the impact? I had to work 6 years longer through ill health, arthritis, back injury etc. Do I have to show my 2017 MRI scan or will the fact that I qualified for aids in the workplace from DWP convince the govt. Disappointed and disgusted.
How can you provide documentation of hardship, when there was no way of knowing this outcome. How do you document the stress caused by having to work longer,at the same time as having to take care of a very elderly, profoundly deaf parent . This is unquantifiable.
Ridiculous that people need to provide evidence, most women like myself had to work longer and this has had anveffect on bith physical and mental health. Again ridiculous.
I was born in the year1957 , how can I find documents to support my claim , financial support at the time was hard for me but I do not have proof of this .
We should get it regardless. No jumping through hoops to prove it. We all had to adjust to a lower level of income and work longer despite family illnesses.
All women born between the dates specified should be paid compensation for WASPI.
I am allegebal for this and I had to struggle with serious illnes and forced to work longer very ill and traumatised
by the NHS constantly sent to occupational health stating I couldn’t do my job properly.
I had constant sickness from work.
I have worked since I was 15yrs old and to be told you cannot have you pension at 60yrs old was devastating.
I think the proof of hardship and emotional stress is ludicrous. All of us women that it has affected shouldn’t have to do this. We paid our Stamp….. we have been robbed of what is ours. Where has that money gone ? I can say I couldn’t retire as I needed the money, with no pension it meant we would have hit financial crisis losing a wage. I had to work until my pension was issued when I was 66 on Sept 30th 2020 . My dear Husband had retired a couple of years previous but we couldn’t enjoy quality time together as I had to work. Sadly we had only 15mths of retirement together as he suddenly passed away in the December of 2021. I feel cheated of my time with him we had things planned to do together. I know I won’t be the only one in this situation and I am sure others will feel as bitter as I do . Increasing the pension age did us women no favours ……
I think it’s disgusting that the Government make this big mistake with our pension but we have to jump through hoops to prove we are entitled to just a fraction of what they took from us. If someone stole £10.000 from me I would have the right to prosecute them for theft. The Government steal £10.000 of mine and all other women’s money from that pension pot yet nothings done about it. Taking money from people is stealing whether it’s the person in the street or Government yet we have just got to put up with it. This Government is not fit for purpose. I feel like I have been violated, walked over and made to feel worthless and disregarded by them. How they have the nerve to hold their head’s up and carry on regardless I do not know. SHAME ON THEM.
How on earth do you prove that you suffered financial hardship. That is utterly ridiculous. It should be paid automatically. Otherwise it’s just another legal loophole.
Why should we provide evidence for the government made the decision to change the age retirement, it should be paid to all women who were born in the 50s
How on earth do I provide proof of hardship, I am married to a younger man, so financially we were OK, but I had to work another almost 3 years as I couldn’t afford to stop working and not get my pension, I think everyone that had to work longer should get it, without having to beg for it
I think this is very unfair that you have to supply the documentation it should be that us women who will qualify without seeing documentation as we were born between 1950 – 1960 it’s just a get out of paying us women who don’t have as much documentation, after all it’s their fault, and what about some of us women who have sadly passed away.
I haven’t any hard proof of how the pension change affected only that I did suffer financially as my husband had just retired then
We’re do I claim for the waspi money owed
I had to work till 70 due to not getting my pension
I struggled so much in those years
Expecting my pension st 60
Thankyou for fighting for us
I lost a lot of money x3100 is nothing. Imparted to the 47k I dident get a insult really
Thanks sandra
I was borne between these dates and I had to work 2 jobs.to keep.me going was a single parent and because of working two jobs I had to
to take early retirement through I’ll health had to have big operation on my back it’s not been the same since
That means half of us will not get it as how can we prove that it affected us what proof have we got it’s been a log hard struggle working when I pain everyday as we get older retire in June and really looking forward to it to not be shattered every day through working till 66:when I retire in June llot of fighting for what !!(
I have had no income since losing my job in Feb 2018. I should have had state pension since Feb 2020 so I have lost a lot of money, don’t get any money till Feb 2026.
Born on the 20th August 1954
Worked until I was 69 in 2023
They should havevto provide documentation on how the change affected them. Its obvious how it would affect them. Those women worked hsrd earned their money and paid into their pension all their working lives and was looking forward to retirement. They would have been exhausted and thinking they could have a rest and start to live some semblance of life. To have this pulled from under them. Just give them their money
I think it’s not enough for us waspi women , but I suppose anything is better than nothing it will help a little bit ,
Why should we provide evidence when you have it all on record who gets wat in pensions
I would like further information as to compensation as A WASPI women who didn’t receive pension at 60 and the struggle I have faced with ill health and hardship financially . Unable to get PIP or financial support
It is time to put this matter to rest and allow all of us effected to be free of this ongoing stress and worry. You have stolen monies that was ours and caused enormous stress that inturn also caused medical problems mainly for me Polymyalgia which I have lived with for all these years.
Government have waited so long that half the waspi women have all ready passed away disgusting and now when they name the figure they must prove this and that my god pay up instead of funding wars that’s nothing to do with us
As usual another day of not paying what we are owed!!! We have to PROVE the hardship which is probably impossible after so many years and In all honesty can we be bothered because it will take years to get if you are lucky
How many people have the type of documents and proof that the government wants ?
Some people have become quite ill due to finding out that they could not retire when they expected.
It is still a farce what the government are expecting you to provide to be able to get what they worked their whole lives for.
It should come under one banner that if you were born between the two dates shown , they should be automatically be paid without having to prove anything except their date of birth.
What happens to woman who don’t have significant prove of how it effected them
Another way for the government to wriggle out of paying out. Surely all WASPI women should qualify, regardless. I missed out and didn’t get my pension until 66. I have none of the documentation required, so yet again I’m going to miss out. How many others are like me? Saving the government a fortune.
I am a single mother of a autistic son.
Also on pension credit.
This money would be a god send.
If it happens.
Most details should be held dwp know how long people have worked the old brown pay slips envelopes are long gone .When moving home things lost when roof leaked so how can I prove things that where lost there I wanted to retire but worked till I was nearly 70 so I was born 6th April 1954 got no letter or anything .
How do we provide evidence ? It was ten years ago for me and if I hadn’t stayed at work I don’t think I would have suffered two heart attacks and surgery
Where did you get the information about waspi women compensation?
Great stuff! Waspi s !
I was born in 1959 I worked the majority of my life sometimes having 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet until I had Cancer 6 different types all at once so I’ve had to try and survive on benefits I was so so looking forward to getting to 60 yrs young only to be dashed with the increase in the pension age will I qualify do you think for the compensation x
To who it may cocern Iwas born 10/06/1954, and should be eligiblef for the Waspi compensation, it has had an impact on me as I do not receive a full pension, DWP pays me £580 per month, considerably low, Iam about £300 short of the full pension, Iphoned them once but they could not tell me why, I do hope I receive the compensation.
It should be paid to every woman no matter the circumstances. All of us lost approx £46,000
Therefore we should all qualify on age alone.
And it should be set at the highest amount for all. It’s the only right thing to do.
What documentation? I worked til 66 does that count?
We lost out I should of retired at 60 that was my plan but it didn’t happen shame on the government
What a load of tosh, why on earth should WASPI women plead for what is rightfully theirs, the figure should be far greater than £3000 and they should not have to prove anything to the so called government. The date of birth is enough proof and the DWP already has that, just pay up.
How does one prove emotional & disruptive behaviour for the waspie women. I just carried on as had no option not to. No pne asked us to keep files on what we did. So that’s another way no to pay us even more!!!
I should have received full pension at 60, had confirmation documents from DWP many, many years later just before due to retire and receive pension had notice of equalisation at 65 then 66. Lost 6 years of pension, roughly £8k per year and now, have to fight for £3k??? So lost £48k and now I have to justify a claim? Disgusted!
So the Govt will try and wriggle out of paying all affected women unless they can prove how it impacted on their lives. How are they supposed to do that ? All women should be compensated in that age group without having to jump through hoops.
How on earth ars we expected to supply proof of how the decision affected financially? We weren’t to know this would be an eventuality. Simply put, we lost more than £3000 during that time, we paid our national insurance and were literally robbed of 5 years’ pension.
All women born between the dates given should be paid compensation even if they don’t have proof of suffering. Pay us and show us compassion and allow us some dignity in our later years.
